Little Sisters

Next, in my … Celebrate Women’s International Day … all Month! series. Today, I introduce you to, Little Sisterz! A wonderful Italian restaurant in beautiful Spencerville, ON. This week, Gina and crew are celebrating their 3 year anniversary! Congrats everyone!!

Gina does so much for the community; often holding or supporting various fundraisers, has created employment opportunities for the area, became a community hub for grocery items, participating and creating many collaborations with local farms and other businesses. And she support artists by hosting the local artist’s group exhibitions year round. In fact, My Ladies in Red series spent a good while social distancing when Covid became our new reality.

Speaking of which, I am looking forward to my nice drives to Spencerville to enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch. And picking up supper from the take-home offerings. Always love to multitask. And let someone else do the cooking!

Gina and I have also had lots of fun with illustrations! There has been a series of Instagram comics, banners, and a “Gina” character that reflects the vibe and personality Little Sisters, Italian with a twist! There is a lot to this story however I will save that for another post. For now, consider as covid protocols allow a trip to Spencerville and Little Sisters!

M.A.P Physiotherapy

Welcome to Women’s International Day Celebrations! I shout out, support and recommend local businesses, here in Ottawa, all the time. As a result, I often have people check back with me to ask about the business they are interested in. Here, on my blog, I can make posts easily searchable. Simply search Women’s Day Celebrations.

So will begin with M.A.P. Physiotherapy! Marie is the owner and physiotherapist. She is keeping my back and neck pain free or helping me to get back to that after perhaps leaning over too much when I am drawing. I always come from the appointments feeling much better, feeling “back together” and my body feels lighter … and can even feel taller after some sessions.

So Marie Shinmoto, Janet Dill, Tamarrah Jacobs and Victoria Goodman of MAP Physiotherapy would be happy to support you on your journey to full movement and good health. Here is their contact info

“We treat people, not body parts.
If you believe in addressing your whole body rather than piecemeal parts, then come in and see us. If you have had a series of seemingly unrelated injuries that haven’t resolved, then we are the professionals for you. If you have pain that came out of nowhere, then we will find the underlying cause.
We will look at how everything is inter-connected and restore harmony in your body. When these issues are truly resolved, you will rediscover your joy.”

Let’s Colour! Colouring book Release!

Back in April 2020, I was inspired and dismayed by the results of COVID lockdowns, I wanted to give others the gift of creative time. I had to think of something accessible for all. And so I began releasing weekly colouring pages and hosting “Let’s Colour” virtual live sessions. First as live sessions on social media then I set up workshop events and hosted through zoom. Who knew we would all become experts at video conferencing! This was my way to connect and give back to the community. I am a big believer in the power of creativity, and love to encourage others to make time for themselves and find some zen in spite of struggles.

The colouring pages were created weekly and were a way for me to set my own creative time. My illustration style tends to be uncomplicated and of course, a fun Whimsical style! Sometimes I would ask for a suggestion for the coming weeks subject matter but luckily inspiration easily finds me. I really enjoyed sharing them each week, feeling the connection with all the comments, and of course, with those that joined my live colouring sessions. So thank you to those who did!

My belief in creativity and self-care at any time made me think. A colouring book would be a natural expansion of this idea! I carefully chose paper that would expect the tools you likely have in your home; crayons and pencil crayons, illustrated a few more pages, and chose a local printer to produce my book. Supporting local is an important part of the studio and of my personal values. Colouring is an easy and accessible activity that embraces creativity and serenity. Simply find crayons, markers, or other supplies you have on hand and away you go! Colour outside of the lines even! Doesn’t matter – this time is for you – and the end result does not need to be a masterpiece. Happy Colouring!

Please share your in progress or completed colouring pages on social media. Remember to tag @redraspberrystudios and use the hashtag #LetsColourFun.
