Udderly Fresh at Vodkow Distillery

 Udderly Fresh is all about newness: new ideas, new voices, and work that feels just-made. Inspired by spring (with a cheeky nod to dairy), this show invites artists to explore what “fresh” means to them: unpolished, experimental, in-progress, or on the edge of becoming something else. Whether it’s literal (dairy, growth) or more conceptual (change, emergence, creative risk), the focus is on work that feels new, alive and of-the-moment. Udderly Fresh celebrates bold beginnings, playful thinking, and art that isn’t afraid to be a little raw.

This piece, Grace in Space, is the start of something new in my art practice. Yes, my whimsical ladies are still here and with lots of Joy and Colour. In my studio I take my use of acrylic paints seriously as in they are plastic, and I aim to never have it enter our home’s septic or any water source. So I treat my studio water to separate the paint waste from the water, dispose of what needs to be, and the water is then safe to pour down the drain. I save all the creative leftovers from my palettes and this creates acrylic skins that I can then use in new pieces like this one. This piece features yellow flowers and leaves made with these acrylic skins, and they are such a dimensional element to this beautiful character’s pink flowing hair. The leaves especially show the aftermath of painting sessions with textures and a mix of colours. Something new comes from something before.

Grace in Space comes from the idea of giving Grace to yourself.
